Laya
A yak-herding village at 3,800 m, four days' walk from the nearest road.
Laya is the highest settlement in Bhutan reachable on the Laya Gasa trek, and home to the Layap people, who herd yaks and are known for the conical bamboo hats the women wear.
It is a genuine high-altitude village, not a stop built for trekkers, and reaching it on foot is the point of the trek.
