Phobjikha
A glacial valley where the black-necked cranes winter.
Phobjikha is a wide, flat-bottomed glacial valley, unusual in Bhutan, where valleys are normally steep and narrow. Gangtey Goemba sits on the ridge above it.
Black-necked cranes fly in from Tibet at the end of October and stay until February. The valley has no overhead power lines because they were buried to keep the flight paths clear.
