Trongsa

The hinge of the country, on the road east.

Trongsa sits at the point where Bhutan narrows, and whoever held Trongsa historically held the country: the first two kings ruled from here, and the crown prince still carries the title of Trongsa Penlop.

The dzong is enormous and stacked down the ridge above a gorge. The Ta Dzong watchtower above it is now a museum of the monarchy.
